Migrant children are forced into hazardous jobs, their safety and futures stolen as weak enforcement lets exploitation thrive. Take action for children!

Over 2.4 million people crossed the southern U.S. border in 2023, including 140,000 unaccompanied children1. Many of these children arrived seeking safety but instead faced new dangers. They are being pushed into exploitative labor in agriculture, manufacturing, and other hazardous industries. These children are working long hours in dangerous conditions, robbed of their right to safety and education2.

A Crisis That Demands Action

Recent investigations revealed a staggering 88% increase in child labor violations in the U.S. since 20191. Vulnerable migrant children, separated from their families and exposed to predatory practices, are at the center of this growing crisis. Many are employed in meat processing plants, farms, and factories where they face significant risks, from physical harm to mental trauma3.

Existing labor laws are being undermined by lax enforcement and insufficient oversight. In 2023, nearly 5,800 children were found working in violation of federal laws1. Without immediate and comprehensive action, these numbers will only rise.

Why This Matters

These children have already endured unimaginable hardships to escape poverty, violence, and the impacts of climate change4. For many, forced labor is not just a violation of their rights but a continuation of their suffering. Protecting them is a moral imperative that reflects the humanity of our nation.

We cannot allow vulnerable children to fall through the cracks of a broken system. Enforcing labor laws more rigorously, conducting frequent inspections, and imposing penalties on violators will help protect these children from exploitation and give them a chance at a better future1.

How You Can Help

Your voice is powerful. By signing our petition to the U.S. Department of Labor, you can demand stronger enforcement of child labor laws. Together, we can push for inspections, penalties, and protections that ensure no child is left vulnerable to exploitation.

Act now and sign the petition to protect the rights and futures of these children.

The Petition:

To the Honorable Officials of the U.S. Department of Labor,

In 2023 alone, over 2.4 million individuals, including 140,000 unaccompanied children, crossed the southern U.S. border, seeking refuge from unimaginable hardships. Many of these children, separated from their families and exposed to danger, have been forced into exploitative labor in sectors like agriculture, meat processing, and manufacturing. These vulnerable children, already burdened by trauma, now face hazardous conditions that rob them of their dignity and future.

We call upon the Department of Labor to urgently strengthen and consistently enforce child labor laws across the nation. While existing protections offer a framework, they fall short without rigorous application. Recent data shows an alarming 88% rise in child labor violations since 2019, indicating critical gaps in oversight. It is imperative that we close these gaps and hold violators accountable through increased inspections, penalties, and preventive measures.

Our nation’s response to this crisis must be rooted in humanity. These children, though not born within our borders, are entrusted to our care the moment they step onto American soil. They represent the collective moral obligation we bear as a society to protect the innocent and uphold their rights.

By ensuring the enforcement of robust child labor protections, we can safeguard the well-being of vulnerable children, break cycles of poverty and exploitation, and build a future where every child is free to dream and thrive. In protecting them, we protect the foundation of a just and compassionate society.

Sincerely,
